WordBridge Privacy Policy (Backwoods Development)

This Privacy Policy explains how WordBridge ("the app") handles information when you use it.

1) Quick summary

  • No account required. WordBridge does not require sign-in.
  • Game data is mainly stored on your device (stats, streak, preferences).
  • The app uses Firebase for daily puzzle delivery, feature flags/dictionary updates, analytics, and crash reporting.
  • The app uses Google AdMob for ads (and optional rewarded ads for hints) and shows a consent dialog where required.

2) Information we collect

A) Information you provide

WordBridge does not ask you to create an account or provide your name, email address, phone number, or similar direct identifiers.

B) Information stored locally on your device

The app stores the following on your device to make the game work and show your progress:

  • Puzzle results (for stats)
  • Streak data
  • Preferences / settings

C) Information collected through third-party SDKs (analytics, crash reports, ads)

WordBridge uses the following services which may collect device/network information automatically:

  • Firebase Analytics (anonymous usage events)
  • Firebase Crashlytics (crash/diagnostic info, typically device/app state)
  • Google AdMob (ads, including the device's Advertising ID/Ad ID for ad delivery/personalization as managed by Google)

Note: These providers may also process information like IP address, coarse location (inferred), device identifiers, and app interaction signals as part of delivering/measurement of their services.

3) How we use information

We use information to:

  • Run the app and save your progress locally (results, streak, settings).
  • Fetch daily puzzles and puzzle metadata (read-only) and cache them locally.
  • Optionally check for dictionary updates/feature flags (Remote Config).
  • Understand app usage and improve gameplay/UX (Analytics).
  • Diagnose crashes and fix bugs (Crashlytics).
  • Show ads and measure ad performance (AdMob).

4) Ads, consent, and choices

Ad types in the app

WordBridge may show:

  • Interstitial ads after completing puzzles or when starting practice (frequency-limited)
  • Banner ads on non-gameplay screens (like stats)
  • Rewarded ads (player-initiated) to earn hints

Consent (GDPR/CCPA regions)

The app uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to display a consent flow where required, before requesting ads.

Opt-out / controls

Depending on your device and region, you can:

  • Adjust ad personalization via your Android/Google settings (Advertising ID controls).
  • Reset your device's advertising/analytics identifiers via Android settings.
  • If you purchase "Remove Ads," the app is designed to disable non-rewarded ads.

5) Sharing features (clipboard / share sheet)

If you choose to share your results, WordBridge uses Android's system share sheet and may copy formatted text to your clipboard at your request.

The app does not automatically post anything, sharing is initiated by you.

6) Online services used by the app (and what they do)

WordBridge is built to be offline-first and only needs the internet for a few features.

Online services include:

  • Firestore: serves daily puzzles / metadata (read-only to clients)
  • Remote Config: dictionary updates and feature flags
  • Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics: usage/crash telemetry
  • AdMob: ads and (optional) rewarded ads

7) Data retention

  • Local game data stays on your device until you delete it, clear app storage, or uninstall the app.
  • The app includes a planned "Delete My Data" option that clears local databases (when implemented).
  • Analytics/crash data retention is governed by Firebase/Google settings.

8) Children's privacy

WordBridge is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact bryan@backwoodsdevelopment.com and we'll take appropriate steps.

9) Security

We use standard platform services (Firebase/Google) and store most gameplay data locally. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we aim to use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the data handled.

10) Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the Effective date above and, where appropriate, provide in-app notice.
