Privacy Policy

PineSSH is developed by Backwoods Development. This policy describes how PineSSH handles your data. The short version: we don't collect any.

Data Collection

PineSSH does not collect, transmit, store, or share any personal data, usage data, analytics, telemetry, crash reports, or device information. Period.

There are no analytics SDKs, no tracking pixels, no third-party services, and no phone-home behavior of any kind embedded in the application.

Data Stored on Your Device

PineSSH stores the following data locally on your device to function as an SSH client:

• Connection configurations — hostnames, ports, usernames, and connection settings you create
• SSH keys — private and public key pairs you generate or import
• Saved credentials — passwords you choose to save for connections, stored in the app's encrypted local database
• Command snippets — saved terminal commands you create
• Preferences — your app settings, terminal profiles, color schemes, and font choices

All of this data is stored exclusively on your device in the app's private storage. None of it is transmitted to Backwoods Development or any third party.

Network Activity

PineSSH only makes network connections that you explicitly initiate:

• SSH/Mosh/Telnet connections to servers you configure
• SFTP file transfers to and from servers you connect to
• Font downloads if you choose to download additional terminal fonts (fetched from Google Fonts)

PineSSH does not contact any Backwoods Development servers, and does not transmit any data about your usage, connections, or device.

Third-Party Services

PineSSH does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or data collection services. There are no ads in the application.

Permissions

PineSSH requests only the permissions necessary for its core functionality:

• Internet — required to establish SSH, Mosh, Telnet, and SFTP connections
• Foreground service — to keep SSH sessions alive when the app is in the background
• Notifications — to show a persistent notification while sessions are active
• Biometric hardware — if you enable biometric authentication for SSH keys

PineSSH does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, location, files outside its own storage, or any other sensitive permissions.

Data Backup

Android may include PineSSH's local data in device backups (for example, Google Drive backup) depending on your device settings. SSH private keys that are marked as non-exportable are excluded from backups by the app. You can control device-level backup behavior in your Android system settings.

Children's Privacy

PineSSH is a technical tool intended for developers and system administrators. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.

Open Source

PineSSH is based on ConnectBot, an open-source SSH client licensed under the Apache License 2.0. You can inspect the source code to verify any claims made in this privacy policy.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Since PineSSH collects no data, meaningful changes to this policy are unlikely.
